Frutez scandens, cortice griseo rugoso. famuli elongati, gracfles, atro-fusci,
glabri, pnnctulis albis conspersi ; partes novelise pubescentes, Folia obtusa vel acu-
minata, subtus pallida, 3-4| poll, longa, If-lf lata, petiolo pubescente, -poll. Pe-
dunculi -l-pollicares, pubesceutes, infra medium bracteolis 1-3 squamseformibus
minutis mnniti, Mores pallide flavescentes, suaveolentes. Sepala kta, ovata,
|-poll., acutiuscula. fetala nervosa, subglabia; exteriora l poll, longa, ^ poll.
lata; interiora panllo minora et anguatiora. Toms parum elevatus, vix excavatus,
inter ovaria longe et dense strigosus. (hula 4-6. Pedmcuhis fructus int'erdum
ebngatus, 4-poll. Torus globosus, pisifonnis. Carpella 10-15, pedicello ~-polli-
cari adpresse fulvo-sti-igoso. Articuli 1-8, saspe solitarii, rugulosi, pubesceutes vel
glabri, ovales, ultimus acutus vel mucronatus.

3. U. Zeylanica (H.f. et T.) ; foliis elongato-lanceolatis submem-
branaceis utrinque glabris vel subtus vix puberulis, peduncxilis axillari-
bus brevibus, petalis oblongo-lanceolatis acutis, articulis fructus 1-4.

HAB. In Zeylania, alt. 2-3000 ped. I (*. s.)

EaiAuK elongati, graciles, griaei vel nigricantes, rugulosi, glabri; partes
novelise pubescentes. Folia basi acuta, ajjice acuminata, 5-8 poll, longa, 1^-2 kta,
plerumque glabra, sed iuterdum subtus oculo arinato pilis sparsis puberula, supeme
nitida, subtus pallida, glaucesceutia ; petioli |-poll., glabri. Peduticuli solitarii vel
bini, intei'dum supra-axillares, gracUes, -f-poll., basi squamelkti, cseterum nudi,
glabri. Sepala oblonga-lanceolata, extus pubernla, 2 lin. longa. Petala coriacea,
glabra ; exteriora, pollicaria, i poll, lata ; interior a |-poll., aagustiora. Stamina
latissiraa, abbreviata. Ovula 2-4, in gelatine immersa. Torus superne parum ex-
cavatus, iu. fructu globosos. Garpella 10-20, (inimatura) pedicello 2 lineas longo.
Articuli 1-4, glabri, rugulosi, ultimus apiculatus.
The joints of the fruit are less markedly distinct than usual, but that is probably
only because they are immature.

pubescentibus, pedunculis suboppositifoliis gracilibus, petalis angust(

Hamuli graciles, foliosi, rugosi, grisei vel nigricantes, verrucolosi, juniores pubes-
centes ; partes novelise sericea. Folia basi rotundata, apice acuminata, acuta aiit
obtusiuscula, 2^-4 PH' 1US^ -$~H PH- lftta petiolo -^-poll., pubescente, Pe-
dvnculi pubesceates, pollicares, infra medium bracteam 1 ovatam stupe acuminatam
1-2 lineas longam gerentes. Sepala ovato-lanceolata, extus tenuiter tomeutosa,
^-poll. 'Petal a, exteriora 2^ poll, longa, vix ^ poll, lata, adprcssc pubescentia, e basi
rotundata, liuearia, tenuiter coriacea; interiora 1^-1 1 poll, louga, sericeo-pubescen-
tia, e basi elliptica intus tuberculata rugosa anguste liuearia. Ovaria 2-3-ovulata.
Torus convexus, medio depresso-concavus. Carpella indefinita, pedicello {-pollicari
suffulta, articulis 18 ovafi-oblongis nigricantibos, ultima mucronata.
This plant, which is usually smaller and narrower-leaved than any of the states of
U. discolor, in general appearance closely resembles that species, but i* readily dis-
tinguished by the narrow petals.
